Teachers and Counselors Interest Form

Welcome to Jimiri! If you’re visiting this site, that means you’re interested in helping address our country’s social justice challenges by building friendships, understanding, and empathy across racial lines. With our Youth Leadership Program, the solutions begin with your students!

Each student is assigned to a group of 12 students representing different racial, ethnic, and geographic backgrounds. Together they’ll choose a common-interest activity such as art, digital photography, public speaking, or sports journalism.

For 10 weeks in each of the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade school years, the Jimiri groups meet on Sunday afternoons at a local Black history or civil rights museum. The groups are led by high-school and college students who serve as facilitators. Staff supervisors, including licensed educators, are on hand to supervise and assist.

We hope the students will build lasting friendships with each other, and we hope they’ll be inspired to become future leaders in the cause of social justice in America.

Jimiri is proud to partner with school principals, teachers, counselors, and social workers to identify students who might be interested in our program. For participating schools, we offer:

   ➤  free field trips

➤  extra-curricular activity training and materials

➤  opportunities for teachers to serve as staff supervisors.
